Osmosis Day Spa and Sanctuary is the latest location to introduce ESSIO to spa-goers, and we could not be more delighted!
This unique spot is located in Western Sonoma County in the Bodega Bay area 60 miles north of San Francisco, and is one of the few locations outside of Japan to offer a Cedar Enzyme Bath and wrap, which is the Osmosis signature treatment. This powerful, 90-minute experience places you (bathing suit optional) into a cozy wooden tub filled with a fragrant, finely ground mixture of cedar, rice bran and plant enzymes imported from Japan. Fermentation heats up the ingredients naturally, and you enjoy the biologically generated warmth for 15-20 minutes.
The Cedar Enzyme Bath begins with a cup of organic herbal tea, mixed with enzymes, in the private meditation area. The massage therapist scoops out a you-sized area in the velvety-soft cedar mix, sculpted to support and comfort your body. Then, you’ll be gently “tucked in”, covered up to your chin in the aromatic, metabolism-boosting cocoon of enzymic warmth. The therapist brings cooling cloths and sips of drinking water throughout the 90-minute treatment, and many people fall into a deep dreamy sleep. When time’s up, you’ll be helped out of the tub and dry-brushed. Following the Cedar Enzyme Bath, people often go on to a massage or aromatherapy facial, and the menu here offers Reiki, reflexology, sports massage, Shiatsu, Swedish, deep tissue and Thai massage treatments– even the awesome NuFace Trinity microcurrent facial which improves facial contour and skin tone.
Offering a massage-pagoda overlooking the Salmon River and soothing bonsai and bamboo gardens, a trip to Osmosis is always a treat, and the Cedar Enzyme Bath seems especially appropriate to the current Year of the Horse, since this is a “wood” year. Tasting packages to nearby wineries are also available, if you like your meditation and mindfulness with Merlot.
